How does the region-specific dominance of detoxifying compounds in multicultural, diverse flora help honeybees to harvest diverse propolis to manage environmental factors, hazards, and indicators?
Multiculturally growing, pesticide- and fungicide-free diverse flora provides a variety of multifunctional natural compounds, including quercetin, coumaroyl derivatives, and esters of organic acids (e.g., CAPE), that enable honeybees to produce nutrient-rich honey and multidimensional propolis, helping protect their health from environmental hazards.
Some Interesting Questions: What happens when nutrient-rich honey is replaced by synthetic sugar syrup in human-managed hives, or when farmers spray their flowering plants with pesticides and fungicides? Why don't beekeepers and researchers combine their efforts to eliminate the causes of disease in honeybees? When they do not focus on disease-causing factors, many diseases spread, which affect honeybee products and their quality of life. Replacing natural honey with sugar syrup and exposing bees to pesticide-treated plants harms bee health and product quality. What type of benefits can we get from those honeybee products, while their quality of life and health are ignored, and the root causes of their diseases go unaddressed?
This post provides only an introductory overview of honeybee product applications in planetary and human health and the environment. Honeybee Science and Apitherapy Future—A few Insights into Challenges and Opportunities for Researchers and Beekeepers, written by Dr. Muhammad R. Manwar.
Author: Dr. Muhammad R. Manwar, PhD.
Dr. Muhammad R. Manwar (PhD) gained research experience and knowledge in rapidly emerging sciences, including hereditary disorders and cancers, genomics, bioinformatics, pharmacogenetics, bacteriology, food chemistry, and glycomics. In different capacities, he has served higher‑education institutions—including public universities—in Asia and the Middle East. He made editorial contributions to international health and life science journals as an Editor (e.g., Topic Editor). In collaboration with scientists from the UK, China, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, he published peer-reviewed articles on rapidly emerging facets of biomedical science in high-quality journals (e.g., Q1- and Q2-ranked). His publications have been cited in well-respected (Q1 and Q2 ranking) scientific journals. He has attended scientific conferences and meetings across Asia, the Gulf, and Europe. Moreover, he has been invited as a Keynote/invited speaker and session chair at international scientific events. In 2023, Dr. Muhammad delivered a keynote lecture at an international apitherapy conference, presenting medicinal applications to scientists and academicians (including editors) from Europe, Turkey, and other countries. In 2025, he spoke at an international food chemistry conference in Turkey and received invitations from international universities to lecture and explore collaborations. His profile is decorated with international awards, fellowships, and service on the scientific committee of an international conference. He has shared research insights with scientists from Asia, Europe, Turkey, and Africa. His research strengths span rapidly evolving sciences, including cancer glycobiology and genomics, food chemistry, hereditary disease genetics, bacteriology and immunology, apitherapy, pharmacogenetics, and public health genetics. Since 2012, he has been actively studying these fields to maximize potential health benefits for patients with hereditary disorders and cancer.
